Total rebuild of emergency department
With a growing local population and limited GP services, the
emergency department at Armadale-Kelmscott Memorial Hospital was
experiencing significant pressure. The hospital needed to increase
its emergency patient capacity by 30 percent. This involved a major
construction and refurbishment of the department, doubling the
number of emergency bays and building additional facilities for the
treatment of children, short-stay patients and fast-tracked
emergency cases. Works could not compromise critical hospital
functions.
Precision work, minimal disruption
The extensive works had to be completed with minimal disruption
to the hospital’s 24-hour cycle. This often meant timing
operations, such as jack hammering, by stopwatch. Constant
communication and updates were a key factor. ISIS deployed
effective separation systems to shield sensitive areas from impacts
such as noise, dust and vibration. The installation of facilities
was a critical phase. Tolerances were very tight and correct,
first-time installation and careful testing was vital. Our
successful delivery of this project led to a more extensive
refurbishment at Fremantle Hospital, W.A.
