Walking the talk with pioneering 5 Star Green Star office
fitout
In 2007, the NSW ISIS Team undertook one of the state’s earliest
environmentally sustainable office fitouts. Acting as Construction
Manager, our team worked with an Interior Designer to target and
deliver a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) 5 Star Green
Star accredited project at the ISIS offices in Sydney. The design
included creation of an outdoor terrace area by removing part of
the façade, as well as construction of a boardroom, meeting rooms
and other areas. To complete this early green project, our team had
to overcome a number of challenges.
Building a network of trusted suppliers
At the time of this project, the concept of sustainability was
just becoming established in the construction industry. With
limited availability of materials, furniture, finishes and
equipment that met GBCA standards of sustainability, and very few
suppliers with proper Green Star accreditation, sourcing took far
longer than for a standard project. The ISIS team also educated
subcontractors on many aspects of sustainability. Our network of
trusted suppliers has grown since, adding significantly to ISIS’
capabilities in the delivery of Green Star projects.
