Cumberland Forest Master Plan, stage
1. Micro-planning the key to complex refurbishment of live
facility
With an end-of-life upgrade due at its 25 year old Cumberland
Forest facility, IBM Australia also decided to create new floor
space for its business hub and commercial data back-up centre. As
this advanced facility’s N+1 redundancy could not be compromised,
the project was executed in a live operational site, involving a
number of technical challenges. ISIS assembled an expert team and
engaged in extensive up front planning and meetings, and rigorous
sub contractor selection. A strict protocol of regular approval and
sign off was adhered to throughout the project.
Attention to detail and technical expertise critical to
success
Long lead time components were very tightly monitored by all
possible means to ensure timely delivery. Maintaining
air-conditioning operations was an imperative that added greatly to
the complexity of this project. For example, replacing old air
chillers with new units required technical procedures such as hot
tapping, as well as a flexible methodology. The successful
completion of this demanding project has resulted in a continuing
partnership between IBM and ISIS.
