Early involvement delivers six star luxury on tight budget
The Shangri La Hotel is an iconic Cairns building, occupying a
premium foreshore position. To help maintain its reputation as
North Queensland’s most desirable hotel, the client sought new
standards in contemporary luxury. This involved the construction of
36 new six star guestrooms with corridors, associated reception and
executive lounge - effectively an internal new build project. A
further 220 guest rooms would be refurbished, as would the
building’s exterior and associated shops and restaurants.
Successful management of multiple stakeholders
Through early involvement and consulting, ISIS was able to
advise on buildability, value engineering, programming and
budgetary issues. The ISIS project team worked from temporary
offices in the hotel basement, communicating with stakeholders,
thereby minimising disruption. The result was on time, on budget
delivery of all eight major stages. The Shangri La project won a
Masters Builders Award and has appeared in design publications.
ISIS has since completed a number of new projects with the
architects.
