The 2011 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work was announced to a packed
audience last night at the South Yarra house Robin Boyd designed
for his family in 1958.
This is the second year ISIS has partnered with Architecture
Australia to promote debate about architecture and architectural
ideas by acknowledging excellence in unbuilt projects.
This year's AA Prize for Unbuilt Work was awarded to Melbourne
student Ton Vu. This scheme explores the topic of informal
urbanism, a pressing matter given that one-sixth of the world's
population currently lives in informal settlements, with this
figure growing.
Timothy Moore, editor of Architecture Australia, congratulated Ton
on receiving the award and said he had demonstrated what
architecture can do to empower the underdog, from the scale of the
city to the street corner.
Other recognized entrants were Times Two Architects, which
received an Honourable Mention; and Palace (Valle Medina and Ben
Reynolds), Daniel Spence and Lucy Warnock who received Special
Mentions.
