Shangri La - Cairns Icon for luxury travellers Communication Five & Six Star Build Standard
close

Initial communication for this project commenced in the early design development phase, where ISIS and other key stakeholders sought to integrate the key deliverables of time, cost and quality. ISIS was engaged in a Negotiated Lump Sum capacity.

Minimal disruption, careful cost management and a build quality worthy of five and six star standards were the major early discussion points in this $36 million project.

The transformation involved the major construction of 36 guestrooms to six star standards including new corridors and an associated reception and executive lounge, as well as the refurbishment of 220 existing guestrooms and corridors.

Works also included the refurbishment and extension of the hotel lobby, reception and porte-cochere, plus construction of a new high-end restaurant and bar. The retail centre underwent extensive redevelopment including realignment of stores and restaurants, new entries, upgraded services and general refurbishment.

Some of the keys to the success of the project were our involvement at a very early stage, open and structured communication, and allowing time for the design to evolve.

There were many challenges with this project. One of the most significant was in minimising disruption to a working hotel, a retail centre and several restaurants. Throughout the project, the ISIS team demonstrated their exceptional build and management capabilities.

The Shangri La is iconic in Cairns and continues to be an inspirational space for discerning luxury travellers.
