ISIS was approached by Geyer Architects to undertake the first floor fitout of the GPO Building, on behalf of BHP Billiton. BHP was leasing this floor from Maunsell AECOM, one of our major customers elsewhere within the building. As ISIS was the head contractor for Maunsell, it became a natural progression for us to undertake the BHP works on the first floor.
BHP expressed a wish to capture as much natural light as possible to fill the two-metre-high space, giving the workstation area a large and spacious feel. Heritage fixtures such as the ornate staircase were also a major consideration.
The fitout was a simple office layout with two kitchen and breakout areas, a reception area, 4 meeting rooms, 10 offices and 147 workstations. To transform the space, we embarked on an 8-week project with a budget of $1.7 million.
The customer had some concerns about timing, as their lease was due to end in their current premises. They needed certainty about the handover date. Knowing that this was their priority enabled us to redirect resources to this project and complete it within the allocated timeframe.
The move-in fell into place for them and they are now back to work in their new location. We closed the project with a delighted customer and a firm resolve to work with ISIS again should the opportunity arise in the future.
